Super's Contract: $174,300 Earnings
For the Upcoming Year

Just so you know, here are excerpts from Carol Jacob's Contract signed last year. Apparently, not full information was provided at town meeting:

The supt's salary is clear in her contract (newly signed):
July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011: $157,300.00
July 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012: $162,300.00
(that's a $5,000 increase for those lacking in math/truth skills)
July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013: $168,000.00.
(again, that's another $5,700 increase in compensation)

Now, for the real fun stuff:
The school committee also granted a bonus on top of the $162,300, in which the supt. will receive $1,000 per month, to be deposited into an annuity (bonus money).
That brings Carol Jacobs'
compensation for next year to $174,300.
And, we're told when she retires, you'll be on the hook for at least $144,000 per year to her,
for perhaps 20-30 years. (Let's hope she makes it until at least 90.)

Special Posting to GeorgetownToday.org requested by
Tamara Schofield, pro-override supporter (who, while very nice, got it all wrong...see editor's note below, and video):

" I have been stewing about this since Monday's Town Meeting and so here it is. Gary Fowler did exactly what he set out to do on Monday night: Confuse and scare as many Georgetown residents as possible with his crafty semantics on how much of an increase the average TAX PAYER will incur with the passage of this override. Taxes WILL NOT increase by $100 a week. Taxes will increase by an AVERAGE of $300 OVER THE YEAR. This amounts to less than $6 a week extra one might pay.

I, along with most of the override supporters, appreciate and empathize with residents on a fixed income. We are all adjusting our household budgets to remain above water these past years. However, I do not accept the "this override is too expensive" line as a reason to not support our schools and town. The tag line "overrides overburden us" is laughable. There has not been an override passed in this town for 20 years - Georgetown is not overburdened with much of anything except folks who would like us to remain in the dark ages while or town crumbles down around us and they can feel good about being as thrifty as possible. You get what you pay for Georgetown. Get out and support your community!"

Editor's note: Obviously some confusion. Selectman Fowler, as he did in a discussion with the Supt. at a recent Selectman's meeting, once again tried to explain that if the overrides pass, you, the average tax-payer will be paying (by the fincom's numbers) an average of $100 per week ($5,200 per year). Video clip is below.

Video Transcript: "This will raise your taxses, on an average family's home, in town, to over $100 per week."
