Want to join the "Georgetown Whine Line?" or the "Political talk line?" or the "Computer Repair line?" or the "Flowers and Veggies line?" Well, send us your request. The list, originally started and owned by Rich Coco is still runs threads of Georgetown interest, and have spawned many would-be other google groups in town (liz). FriendsofLonnie_ @gogglegroups.com originally started out as a collection of supporters of Lonnie Brennan's Selectman election campaign. It has evolved [devolved] into a general free-for-all about all things Georgetown, and "list" contains many non-friends. It's quite the howl, and it's quite a community of sharing (and yes, opinion and gossip). Venture forth if you are interested or brave. click here to send us an e-mail to get on the list |

Modern Woodmen contest offers $500 for community improvement
Gatherings with Purpose Small Towns Big Dreams contest rewards those who give back
If you wish you had the funds to improve your neighborhood park, build a new walking trail at a local school or improve the community in some other way, you may be eligible for a new contest that rewards people for giving back. Modern Woodmen of America is searching for monthly winners to receive $500 to kick-start a community improvement project.
“Modern Woodmen members gather with purpose through local chapters and youth service clubs nationwide,” said Joseph R. Soucy, a Modern Woodmen representative in Georgetown. “This monthly contest is an opportunity to give others the opportunity to improve communities through volunteerism.”
Submissions can be entered online at Gatherings.info for a chance to win. Entries should be 400 words or less and describe what project would be completed with $500 from Modern Woodmen.
Eligible submissions will be posted online and the public can help choose a favorite. The winner will be chosen based on the potential project impact and the number of “likes.”....read more
Locally, Modern Woodmen representative Joseph R. Soucy has an office in Georgetown. For more information, contact Joe Soucy at 978-479-7880 or joseph.r.soucy@mwarep.org.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
- Plot Plan
- Application
We have open territory to re-claim after laying fallow for years, but it's out back, and you have to be made of stern stuff to re-claim this tough ground.
Final assignments will be made April 1st, then it's just the rear area for those not assigned.
Note: Once you have a plot, you can keep it until you tell us to change (some folks move around, expand/contract, etc.)
WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM OUT BACK, BUT FOLKS WANTING SPACE CAN EITHER GRAB WHAT IS EMPTY NOW, OR WAIT UNTIL APRIL 1 TO SEE IF ANYTHING ELSE OPENS UP.
We have plenty of room up there if you want
to expand out back (way out back, needs lot of work). Could fit another 70 gardeners...just a matter of plowing it up. Lots of work. Enjoy!

Republican Candidate Forum
State Rep
- 2nd Essex
At the Erie 4 Fire Station Hall
North Street, Georgetown
Details to follow....
The Georgetown and Groveland Republican Town Committees along with the 6th District Chapter of MARA are co-sponsoring a Meet the Candidates Debate at Erie 4 fire station, 474 North Street, Georgetown on May 17th at 7 p.m.
The debate will be among the Republican primary candidates for the 2nd Essex State Representative seat. The candidates are:
Bob Cronin of Boxford,
Gary Fowler of Georgetown, and
Lenny Mirra of West Newbury.
The towns in the 2nd Essex are Boxford, Georgetown, Groveland, Merrimac, Newbury, and West Newbury.
If you care about taxes, government expansion, gas taxes, where your money goes & what these candidates have to offer you as a taxpayer, this is the place to be. Think global, but ACT local! This could be the best hour and a half of the election season as we get to know our future state representative!"
Anne Tentindo, the Georgetown Republican Town Committee chair enthusiastically said, "I am thrilled to be part of this effort to bring the candidates together. I look forward to fresh ideas and real answers from local decision makers. After having met all of the candidates, I feel each truly has an innate ambition to make government accountable and effective. The challenge has begun. I anticipate an exciting night of healthy debate."
"I am excited to be teaming up with the Georgetown Republican Town Committee,” said Leigh Ann Berry, Chairman of the Groveland Republican Town Committee, and Secretary of MARA in the 6th District. “I am certain that our partnership will flourish and we can continue to provide exposure to all state and national candidates leading up to November and beyond.”
Sheila Mullins who is the president of the 6th District Chapter of MARA added "MARA is committed to restoring the Republican Party by building it from the bottom up. I am delighted to be working with the Georgetown & Groveland RTC's and thank Erie 4 for making this event possible. This is an opportunity to come to the debate to ask pointed, thoughtful questions in a respectful forum. This could be the best hour and a half of the election season as we get to know our future state representative!"
All are welcome. Light refreshments will be available for a donation to help offset the costs of the event. For more information, please contact Leigh Ann Berry at 978.373.4664 or grovelandgop@comcast.net
